Villa drew 2-2 away to Ipswich in the 6th round of the Premier League tonight. After the match, Villa player Watkins shared his thoughts on the game in an interview with Sky Sports.
Watkins said that Ipswich put Villa under a lot of pressure during the game, making it difficult for them to really implement their game plan. He described the opposing players as always on Villa's back and the atmosphere as a bit like a basketball game, which is exactly what Ipswich wanted, but not what Villa expected. Watkins felt that it was a tough game and although it ended in a one point draw, the result was fair. He admitted that Villa were poor in the attacking third and could have been more decisive, himself included. He was a little disappointed to take a point as his team had plenty of chances but Ipswich, playing at home, kept up the pressure and attacked on a number of occasions and in the end the sides had to settle for a draw.
In addition, Watkins spoke about the upcoming Champions League match against Bayern in midweek. He said that everyone in the team is ready and the atmosphere in the club is very warm. He recalled that last year's Champions League experience was very special and expects this year's Champions League match to be even more exciting. Watkins said that Villa want to play in the best competition in the world and they will be at their best to meet that challenge.
