After the 0-3 home defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the 6th round of the EPL, Manchester United manager Jens Ten Hagar was interviewed by the Match of the Day program, giving an in-depth analysis of the reasons for the team's loss and their outlook for the future. Ten Hag pointed out that the team's confidence was dealt a huge blow when they conceded a goal in just two or three minutes after the start due to a defensive error. He emphasized that the ease with which opposing center back Van der Ven broke through the entire right half of the defense and assisted the winger's breakaway was the same mistake that was made against Twente in midweek, and that the team should have prevented this from happening at the start of the game.
Ten Hagar further said that after this loss, United looked too nervous in possession, struggled to find effective triangular passes or chances to move the ball, and despite having some good moments, were unable to stand firm overall. He admitted that the team could have done better and should have stayed calm even after making mistakes. Ten Hagar also mentioned that United actually had a number of chances in the game, including shot attempts from Joshua Zilkzer and Alejandro Gancho when playing with 11 men, as well as attacking chances after the red card, but failed to capitalize on them.
Ten Hagar had reservations about the red card call, arguing that it was not a necessary red card. He emphasized that the team must learn to show resilience in the face of adversity, something that was clearly not done well enough in this game. Temhag said that United must accept this reality and learn from it, focus on the next game and try to make things better than they were today.
