Although Chelsea wing-back Chilwell has returned to the first team, his Stamford Bridge future still seems to be full of uncertainty, according to British media outlet Mirror. The Blues plan to continue trying to sell the former Leicester City player in next January's transfer window, while Chilwell himself hopes to remain in the Premier League if he leaves.
Chilwell became one of Chelsea's key cleaning targets this summer, and was even banned from first-team facilities at one point. However, Chelsea did not receive a substantial offer for the England international before the transfer window closed, with Brentford
An enquiry was made but no further action was taken. Chelsea then looked to the Turkish Super League, pitching Chilwell to clubs such as Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas, but none of those clubs ultimately opted to sign the Champions League winner.
With that in mind, Chilwell was eventually able to stay at Chelsea and returned to first-team training, as well as making an appearance for the team in an EFL Cup match. However, that doesn't mean Chilwell's future is locked in at Chelsea. The Blues still plan to continue trying to sell him in the January transfer window, and Chilwell's exclusion from the club's UEFA Europa League squad despite being named in Chelsea's Premier League 25-man squad means that his chances of making future appearances will be very limited.
Developments over the past few months have left Chilwell frustrated as he had hoped to prove himself under the new Chelsea manager, but the reality has been far from his expectations. He doesn't seem to fit in with current manager Maresca's style of soccer, making his future at Chelsea even more confusing.
