Family Background: LaVine was born into a family of athletes, with his father, Paul LaVine, a former football player, and his mother, C.J. LaVine, a softball player.

High School: Attended Bothell High School in Washington State, where he was the local league scoring leader as a sophomore averaging 26 points per game, and was ranked No. 1 in the state of Washington and among the top 50 high school seniors in the U.S. LaVine was voted Mr. Basketball for the state of Washington in 2013, and was named to the parade All-American High School All-Tournament Team.

COLLEGE: Attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Played most of his freshman season off the bench, averaging 9.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 24.4 minutes per game, and was named to the pac-12 Freshman of the Year team. Helped UCLA reach the 2014 NCAA March Madness Round of 32, but lost in the Round of 16 to the University of Florida. Following the season, LaVine opted to enter the 2014 NBA Draft.

Timberwolves period (2014 - 2017):

2014 - 15 Season: LaVine was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2014 NBA Draft with the 13th overall pick. After an outstanding rookie season, he participated in the 2015 All-Star Slam Dunk Contest, winning the title with a spectacular dunk, and was also named to the NBA Rookie Second Team.

2015 - 16 Season: Played the entire season and was named MVP of the All-Star Rookie Game. 2016 All-Star Weekend, participated in the Dunk Contest again, and defended his title against the Magic's Aaron Gordon with a free-throw line jumping crotch-to-hand dunk.

2016 - 17 Season: On December 23, 2016, scored 40 points in a home game against the Magic, setting a new personal single-game scoring record. But on February 4, 2017, he was diagnosed with a torn ACL in his left knee and was lost for the season.

Bulls Period (2017 - Present):

2017 - 18 Season: Traded by the Timberwolves to the Chicago Bulls as a bargaining chip in exchange for Jimmy Butler. Returned from injury and played in 24 games for the Bulls, averaging 16.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

2018 - 19 Season: Opened the season with back-to-back 30+ point games in the first four games of the season, setting new single-game scoring records on multiple occasions. Averaged 23.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.0 steals in 63 games.

2019 - 20 Season: Had a stellar three-point shooting performance, setting the Bulls' all-time single-game three-point shooting record multiple times. Averaged 25.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.5 steals in 60 games.

2020-21 Season: Named an NBA All-Star for the first time in his career and set the Chicago Bulls' franchise record for individual three-pointers in a season with 200.

2021 - 22 Season: Selected to their second NBA All-Star Game, the Bulls had a good record, making the playoffs as the sixth-ranked team in the Eastern Conference, but were eliminated by the Bucks in the first round of the playoffs.

2022-23 Season: Had a solid regular season, setting his own Bulls single-season record for 3-pointers made in a season by scoring 40+ five times. Earned a bye, but missed the playoffs in the second round of the playoffs.

2023-24 Season: Played in 18 regular-season games for the Bulls, averaging 21 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.On Jan. 2, 2024, was released to the Windy City Bulls, a developmental league team, for rehab.

National team career:

On May 13, 2016, LaVine accepted an invitation to join the USA Basketball Men's National Team Selection Team.

In August 2021, he traveled to the Tokyo Olympics with the U.S. Men's Basketball Team and won the gold medal in the men's basketball program.
