Arsenal beat Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 at home in the second round of the UEFA Champions League stage in the early hours of this morning. After the match, Arsenal player Havertz was interviewed by UEFA officials, sharing his thoughts on the match and his expectations for the new season.
Speaking about the performance, Havertz said, "I think we can be proud of ourselves, especially in the first half when we played very well. We put a lot of pressure on the other team in their half and managed to score. Although we defended a bit more tightly in the second half, overall we still controlled the tempo of the game and didn't give our opponents too many chances. Overall, we are very happy with our performance."
Of his goal, Havertz recalled, "In that moment, I saw Donnarumma a little bit forward and thought he was a little bit late to strike, so I went for the ball decisively. Attacking was our priority at the time and I made the right choice and managed to score."
Looking ahead to the new season, Havertz is confident: "Although we're still early in the season, it's clear that Paris Saint-Germain is a top team and a strong opponent for us in the Champions League. We want to win every game and I think we are ready for such a challenge. We've learned our lessons from last season's quarter-final exit and have grown as a team. Everyone is also more mature, so I believe we are ready for all the upcoming challenges."
