After Manchester United's 0-3 Premier League defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, former United star Scholes was heavily critical of his team's performance, saying that United played like an untrained team on the field.
Scholes said bluntly, "Watching United, you have no idea how they will play, it's not clear how they will play, whether they will play on the counter-attack or control the ball. United's ideas are inscrutable and they play like a team lacking training on the field."
He further noted, "Ten Hag has been in charge of United for over two years, while Postecoglou is only in his first week in charge of Tottenham, and we can already see Tottenham's mindset of the game, which has been validated in this round of the league. In comparison, United are more than two years behind in that respect."
Scholes also expressed his dissatisfaction with the form of United's players, "The players looked dead and lacked energy, I don't know what they want to do. They are not aggressive enough on the field, it's more of a problem that only happens on the training ground."
Scholes also didn't give a favorable comment on the new recruits brought in by United: "When you bring in new players, you always hope that they can perform better than the existing players. But I don't see much difference in these new players. For example, Derek De Ligt, who came to United to replace Maguire, didn't make much of a difference to the team. Did the addition of De Ligt really give United a boost? No, absolutely not."
Finally, Scholes made an appeal to the United players, "United have paid a lot of transfer fees for these experienced players and we can't hear any more excuses. They need to go to the training ground and find a way of playing that suits them and get out of the rut as soon as possible."
