Former Barcelona striker Afellay, in a recent interview, expressed his concern over the situation of current United boss, Jurgen Ten Hagar, and suggested that Ten Hagar could be sacked soon if the team's performances don't improve significantly.
Afellay pointed out that Ten Hag has had enough time to adapt the team to his way of thinking, but results are still the key to measuring his success. He said, "Ten Hagar will soon need to get results, after all he has had very ample time to adapt the team to his way of thinking. However, results are the most important criterion to judge."
Afellay further said that even if the team can show a good and attractive style of play, it can relieve the pressure to some extent. But unfortunately, the current style of play of Manchester United does not leave such an impression. He said, "It would be fine if the team at least showed a good, attractive style of play, but the problem is that you don't see those signs at all right now."
In addition, Afellay also mentioned the huge investment made by United in the transfer market during Ten Hagar's tenure and the numerous players brought in based on his advice. He believes that if such investment and changes fail to bring about a significant improvement in results, then Ten Hagar's dismissal may become an inevitable end. He said, "If even a team like Twente can prevail at Old Trafford, and considering the hundreds of millions invested in his reign and all the players brought in based on his advice, I feel that his dismissal may be the inevitable end, and it may happen soon."
