Six years ago, Xu Zehui was in her second year of junior high school, and would never have imagined that her relationship with the BGBC (Beijing High School Interscholastic Football Championship) would never be severed once it began.
bgbc tournament organizers and participants, are the most general high school students, in the absence of funds, not much external support, they practiced their love of soccer with actual payment. Whenever we talk about the neighboring Japan's national high school soccer league, all envy its century-old history, all admire its high level. However, little attention has been paid to the domestic high school league. As a team representing the city of Beijing, Beijing

On June 13th the fifth bgbc came to an end at the Juga Stadium, and in the end, Beijing West World Campus defeated One Zero One High School to win the trophy of this year's bgbc. From the first bgbc in 2016 to the just completed fifth, five consecutive tournaments (2020 due to epidemic suspension) Xu Zehui in different capacities to participate in the whole process, witnessed the growth of this Beijing high school student tournament drop by drop.
From Duty to Kool-Aid
In 2016, Liu Yihe from Normal University Attached Middle School organized the first bgbc, "in fact, there is no special initial intention, is to create more opportunities for students to play football." Four years ago, Liu Yihe said in an interview, "If I knew at the beginning that it was so complicated to organize the tournament, maybe I wouldn't have made this choice. But since the beginning, looking at those who lost the students in the eyes of the reluctance, I feel that I have the responsibility to continue to run this competition has always been."

Liu Yihe's "duty" has become the principle of the ignorant Xu Zehui. In the past six years, Xu Zehui has been involved in different capacities in the bgbc, starting with the event filming, then becoming a volunteer in the event, participating in the organizing committee of the third, and then becoming the general manager of the event in the fourth.
Along with the change in status, is the mood of Xu Zehui about the BGBC. "If the beginning is a kind of duty, so many years down to this event is too much love. This tournament is like a child we raised together, have now changed from duty to voluntary payment, and now full of pure love, is absolutely can not give up the cool love." Such emotional change, appeared in every young people with the tournament with the growth of the body.

"It's really because of cool love and sentiment that we've made it this far." Xiao Yang, a junior this year, said that he participated in the bgbc operations team as a note in 2017, started helping out with the field operations in 2019, and formally participated in the tournament's organizing committee this year. It is about this tournament and soccer's cool love, so that academic increasingly busy Xiao Yang instead for bgbc paid more time and energy.

At the suggestion of the soccer salon, the bgbc organizing committee decided to adopt the slogan of the tournament, "Love is bigger than all". "We also thought of some other slogan, but feel that this more expressive of our original intention to run this tournament." bgbc organizer Liu Yihe said.

It's not only the organizing committee members who are cool with the BGBC, but also the players, parents, and coaches who are participating in the tournament, all of whom are equally cool with the idea of coming to participate in this self-created tournament for high school students that doesn't have an official set-up. "As a world campus, this is the first time we have participated in such a public campus-based tournament. We are very satisfied with all aspects of the tournament, we love soccer and we love this tournament, and we hope that we can come back next year." Murray, head coach of the winning team, King's West Campus, said.
Liu Junrong (center)
Zhu Dan, mother of Liu Junrong, the captain of One and One Middle School, said that participation in the event has become a tradition at One and One Middle School. "Our children heard about this competition from alumni of the school, who had participated in it and achieved certain results. The competition is still famous among high school students, and the alumni love this competition and expect the younger students to continue to participate in it and stick to it as a tradition. We also expect to be able to always carry on this way, soccer civilization needs such accumulation and communication." Zhu Dan said.
Soccer changes lives.
Many parents are reluctant to let their children play soccer because they always consider soccer as a job option for their children's future life. The success rate of working soccer is low and the elimination rate is high, so it is not difficult for "calm" parents to choose between high school entrance exams and soccer. However, becoming a working player is not the only intention and meaning of the sport of soccer, and the children who participate in bgbc will never become working players, but most of them have changed their lives because of soccer.
"I think every child needs to have a favorite sport that he or she is good at, and that will benefit him or her for the rest of his or her life. Our child is physically stronger, and I think it's because he grew up playing soccer. His coordination, stamina and perseverance have all improved a lot because of playing soccer." Although playing soccer can bring about these beneficial changes, Judan said, there are other charms of soccer that she has only experienced this time around through her participation in the bgbc. "Once there was no such municipal competition, the children had fewer opportunities to play against famous and powerful teams, and the most they could do was to play a friendly match, and the atmosphere was completely different from this kind of tournament. My feeling is that they represent the campus to participate in this kind of competition, for each child's sense of group honor is a particularly big promotion. In addition, such a round by round fight to the final, the children's psychology is a very good training, we are on the sidelines as spectators are very excited. Children can play such a competition, as parents we all feel lucky."
Tears in the eyes of One and One High School players after the game
The final of this year's bgbc was not a perfect one, with One and One Secondary School believing that the first goal scored by their opponents was controversial (the opponents continued to play with an unofficial match ball after the dead ball, and the referee did not penalize them). Some of the players from One and One High School were agitated during the game, but their goalkeeper immediately went up to his teammates and advised them, "Remember we can lose the game but we can't lose the people."
After the match, as the head coach of the opponent, Murray spoke highly about One and One High School. "I think this match was the most difficult one we've played in this cup, One and One High School is so strong, they are very strong from tactics to formation to technique. I think this match was particularly exciting and deserved the title of final." As for the controversies that arose during the competition, Murray thought it was this imperfection that reflected the perfection of the game of soccer. "Of course there has to be controversy, otherwise it wouldn't be soccer. I feel that the referee is to do their own work, the referee is also a human being, is a human being are not perfect. If the other team has some doubts, we also have some doubts, and that's what makes soccer so attractive. I understand the players of One and One High School, but this is also a kind of growth for them, and this final will surely make them look back for many years."
Learning that the meet was entirely student-run and organized, Murray expressed his surprise. "I think it represents the level of leadership and the level of high school students in our country right now. All the high school students themselves to hold a cup tournament of this size, and is now the fifth, this work makes their parents, let us all feel that our country's education is very good, and not the outside world's impression that only exams, which makes me proud of them. I think both the arrangers and the players who participate in the tournament have more or less changed the trajectory of their lives because of this tournament."
Xu Zehui
Xu Zehui is precisely because from junior high school began to participate in the bgbc's tournament operations, and therefore in the college entrance examination filled out a number of BeiShiDa majors, just in the end, she was admitted to the early batch of BeiShiDa, and sports-related majors to rub shoulders with. "But graduate students I want to switch from opera film and television literature to news communication, so that can better assist bgbc. as for the future work, I also expect to be engaged in sports-related, it is best to always help bgbc. from my personal point of view, the participation is no years." And soccer has become Xu Zehui's favorite sport, "I fell in love with soccer from the beginning of my participation in bgbc, and now it's

Fans and usually stick to watching and playing soccer and stick to the game."
Xiao Yang, now a junior, has likewise embarked on a path of illustration he hadn't thought about because of bgbc. "I can say that without bgbc there is no me now, so I always love it." Although the university did not study broadcasting and management majors, but over the years bgbc live description let Xiao Yang in the amateur description of the breakthrough in some of the hall of fame. "I've gained a lot of viewers, and a lot of players have given me feedback through various channels that they love my style of illustration. I have also made many like-minded friends, and as a result I have been given the opportunity to illustrate many other competitions, including the then Youth Premier League in 2017, the 100 Teams Cup final last year and the Network New Media Cup final. Illustration has now become an integral part of my life."

Having watched this year's bgbc final as the guest of honor, he thought that working soccer is only a small part of soccer, not the whole thing. "I think it's important for every kid to get involved in sports, not even necessarily soccer, and it's a good way to decompress and relieve the pressure of studying by having them walk out onto the training field and competition field after studying through competitions like this. Sweating it out is a great aid to their physical and mental health."

The road ahead is long.
The bgbc, which has run five editions in six years, is now hitting a not-so-small bottleneck.
This year's Organizing Committee Xu Zehui (front row, fourth from left) Xiao Yang (back row, second from left)
"In fact, thanks to our best efforts, the help of our predecessors, and the support of all parties in the community, the tournament now does not have many difficulties in plain sight." After the completion of the fifth bgbc, the organizing committee of the tournament immediately summarized the season, and we agreed that we need to plan a set of tournament arrangements and talent selection system that can operate on a permanent basis.
Most of the founders and organizing committee members of bgbc come from the Beijing Middle School Communication Society (BMSCS), relying on the arranging force of the Scholastic Communication Society to advance a great deal of the tournament's grassroots work. "It used to make up for the freshman force, but last year it was suspended for a year because of the epidemic, which deprived the kids of a valuable opportunity." Xu Zehui said.
Because of the special nature of the three-year school system for secondary school students, it only takes one year of failure to articulate, there will be a talent gap. "As long as the time and energy allow, we are happy to serve the bgbc, but we are not enough, we must make up for the new people. And one of the characteristics of the bgbc is that the tournament and the participants are all high school students, we know each other very well, and can meet the needs of the participating teams. But a few of us are getting farther and farther away from high school life, more and more unable to investigate the problem from the perspective of high school students." Xiao Yang said. "I think bgbc can't be separated from high school students, and Scholastic Society is an important bridge, bgbc can't be separated from high school students as the public. The reason the Scholastic Press has moved more and more behind the scenes in these two competitions is because people like

"I think this kind of amateur competition outside the traditional soccer school is particularly good, rumor has it that this year is the fifth year, there are more than twenty campuses to participate in, I expect this tournament can force more and more.

Although the difficulties on the surface are not a problem for the enthusiastic youngsters, the hidden worries at the back of the tournament are now beginning to worry them. "We wanted to expand the tournament this year, but in the end there were only 24 teams registered and one dropped out. Many campuses have told us that our own campus can't even come up with a seven-player team anymore. I'm worried about what school soccer will look like in five or ten years, and I wonder if there will still be high school students who are attracted by the charm of soccer in the face of more and more temptations." Xu Zehui said without worry.

Xiao Yang also lamented that after really participating in the organizing committee of the tournament this year, he was under more pressure than before, and had beaten the drum of retreat in the face of the unsatisfactory registration situation. But after the finals came to an end, he mimicked the opening of One Hundred Years of Solitude and wrote this paragraph - "Years from now, whenever Xiao Yang students stand on the illustration table, he will recall that distant general afternoon in 2017 when he first participated in the organizing committee interview."
