On May 9, 2024, the Hornets announced the hiring of Charles Lee as their new head coach. He has spent the last 11 years as an assistant coach with the Hawks, Bucks, and Celtics, and helped the Bucks to a championship in 2021.Woj reports that Charles Lee and the Hornets have agreed to a four-year coaching deal.
Prior to that, the Hornets' previous head coach was Steve Clifford. Clifford coached the Hornets in two stints, 2013-2018 and 2022-2023. In his five seasons coaching the Hornets from 2013-2018, the Hornets went from one of the worst in the league to a team that made the playoffs twice. He later became the head coach of the Magic in 2018.Clifford returned to the Hornets in the summer of 2022 after the Hornets fired original head coach James Borrego.Clifford led the Hornets to a 48-116 record in the 2023-2024 season.
