Manchester United center back Maguire, who scored the equalizing header in United's 3-3 draw away to Porto in the UEFA Europa League, spoke to TNT Sports to give an in-depth review of the game and talk about the future of the team and the manager.
match
"After every game, we analyze and talk to each other. Whether it's the manager, the staff or the players, they all give their opinions. When you are 2-0 up on the road, you have to be more solid, but we showed too many holes in this game. The opposition had too many passes into our box and ended up punishing us. With the ball, we played well, but when defending without the ball, we were poor."
On conceding a goal after taking the lead
"It's something we need to focus on. Giving up two goals in a row with a lead happens too often. Every time we give up a goal, we have to quickly adjust our mentality and get back to the game plan that put us ahead. This is something we need to improve on. If we want to be successful this season, we can't afford to give up two goals in a row so quickly when we have the lead. We have to improve our consistency and focus on defense."
On the future of the head coach
"There is a lot of gossip about the future of our manager, but I think he can cope with it. I've played for this club for six years and I know how it is. Players are under pressure when you have a bad patch, but so is the manager. Ten Hagar is experienced, has been through enough games and has been at this club long enough so I'm sure he knows how to deal with the situation. It's one of the characteristics he has to appreciate at this club. We players will fully support him and face the challenge together for the future of the team."
