In a recent interview, Real Sociedad midfielder Subi Mendy candidly shared his journey behind his decision to reject Liverpool's offer and choose to stay with the team this summer. Despite the fact that the team is currently facing some difficulties, he said he has never regretted the decision.
Subbimendi said, "My philosophy is simple, whenever and wherever I'm at home (referring to Real Sociedad), I listen to my heart and do what I want to do. So far, I think I've done a pretty good job of that. It's true that there was a lot of noise and distractions and I went through uncomfortable moments, but the best option for me was to stay here. I'm at peace and happy now."
He further revealed that there was a lot of noise and distractions around him due to the extensive media coverage. "But in the end, everything was easier to handle than I thought it would be. I certainly don't regret the decision. You can't waver in your thoughts after four or five games at the beginning of the season, I've made a decision deep down and I think it's the best option. Whatever the outcome, it won't affect my decision."
Subbimendi also expressed his confidence and expectations for the team's future. "I see where the team's potential lies. You only have to look at our training, that atmosphere and passion, and I aspire for the team to have a fantastic season. I believe we have the ability to come out of the woods and achieve better results."
The 25-year-old Subbimendi, who comes from the Real Sociedad youth system, has made 185 first-team appearances, scoring nine goals and dishing out seven assists. His contract with Real Sociedad expires in the summer of 2027. The midfielder's firm choice and confidence in the team's future will undoubtedly inject more positive energy and motivation into Real Sociedad.
Despite the current challenges and difficulties faced by the team, with loyal and fighting spirit players like Subi Mendy, Real Sociedad is undoubtedly capable of achieving better performance in the season. Fans are also looking forward to seeing the team show more strength and better performance in the coming matches.
