Aston Villa defeated the mighty Bayern Munich 1-0 at home in the 2nd round of the Champions League. After the match, Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers was interviewed by TNT Sports to share his feelings and opinions.
Regarding the win, Rodgers couldn't hide his excitement, "This feeling is unreal. In this atmosphere, on this occasion, against one of the most powerful teams in the world, and for us to put in a performance like this is fantastic."
Speaking about his rise, Rodgers said, "Football is so transient and a bit crazy. I've always believed in myself and with patience, the opportunity will always come. Fortunately, I met a coach who believed in me. When I first came to Villa, I might have been a little bit reserved, but the coach gave me confidence and self-belief in my abilities. We knew that Bayern would control the ball more, so our strategy was to play on the counter-attack. We let them control the ball in certain areas, but when the ball is in the midfield we have to go all out. That's why I play soccer, it's the peak moment and it means everything to me. I even wanted to pinch myself to see if this was a dream, but I didn't have time to sit down and think about it."
Speaking about the atmosphere in the locker room, Rodgers said, "It was crazy, just crazy. But then the coaches started talking about Wednesday's game and we knew there was a bigger task ahead of us."
In addition, Rodgers spoke highly of teammate John Doolan: "When he first came to the club, I had no idea he was 20 years old. The way he plays is a big problem for defenders. He comes on with a lot of energy, knows he's going to get his chance and believes in himself 100 percent. He's a great lad and has the same focus and composure every game. But when he's on the field, he becomes a completely different 'beast' and helps the team immensely."
