In a recent interview with DAZN, Bayern Munich director Eberl questioned the DFB's punishment against Ulreich, saying it was too harsh. Last week, during Bayern's match against Leverkusen, Ulreich was punished by the DFB with a one-game Bundesliga suspension and a fine of 20,000 euros for making insulting remarks about Leverkusen's sporting director Rolfes.

In response, Eberle expressed his displeasure in an interview, "The penalty seems a bit excessive. We have noticed that other players in similar situations have been punished much less severely." He specifically mentioned an old case of Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne as a comparison. While playing for Wolfsburg in 2015, De Bruyne was reported to have said to a 16-year-old ball boy, "Give me the ball, you stupid X," and was fined 20,000 euros for the offense, but was not suspended.
