Atletico Madrid midfielder Gallagher accompanied manager Roberto Simeone to the pre-match conference for the Champions League clash with Benfica, where he expressed his gratitude to his coach and shared his thoughts on the upcoming match as well as other topics.

Speaking about last week's Madrid derby, Gallagher said, "It was a tough game, Real Madrid are the top team. We played a good game and although I think we could have done better, a point in the end is a good result."

On the upcoming Champions League match against Benfica, he said, "Benfica is a European powerhouse and we are well prepared for this match. It's going to be an exciting matchup and we're aiming to get all three points to make a good start to our Champions League campaign."

On the news of Griezmann's farewell to the French national team, Gallagher said, "He is an incredible player and very humble. I wish him all the best and I hope he scores many more goals and sails on in his future career. This is what he deserves with his hard work and talent."

When asked what surprised him most about Atletico and Simeone, Gallagher said fondly, "The coach is a very amazing person. He gave me a lot of confidence and help and made me feel like an integral part of the team. This is very important and is the reason why I have been able to stay where I am now. I am very grateful to him and hope to continue working with him for many years to come and together we can create more great things for Atletico."
