Family background:
His father, Melvin Booker, is a former NBA player who had a successful NCAA career, playing 32 games in the NBA with the Rockets, Nuggets and Warriors before traveling to Italy, Turkey and Russia.
His mother, Veronica Gutierrez, met Melvin and had Booker, but the two never married. Booker was raised in Grand Rapids by his mother alone and would visit his father every summer.
Growing up experience:
HIGH SCHOOL: Transferred his sophomore year from Grand Rapids, Michigan, High School to Moss Pointe High School in Mississippi, where his father, Melvin, was an assistant coach. Averaged 22.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game during his sophomore season; transitioned to play point guard during his senior season and averaged 29.7 points per game. Received scholarship offers from several colleges after his senior season.
COLLEGE: On October 31, 2013, Booker announced his choice of the University of Kentucky. In one season at Kentucky, Booker averaged 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 21.5 minutes per game, earning NCAA Southeast Region Sixth Man of the Year, and was named to the Southeast Region Rookie of the Year and the Southeast Region All-Rookie Team and the Southeast Region All-Tournament Second Team.On April 9, 2015, Booker announced his selection for the NBA Draft.
NBA Career:
2015-2016 Season: After making his debut in his rookie season, Booker gradually gained consistent playing time as the season progressed. on January 19, 2016, at the age of 19 years and 81 days, Booker scored 32 points, becoming the 3rd youngest player in NBA history to score 30 points in a single game. He participated in the All-Star Rookie Challenge and the Three-Point Contest, and was named to the Rookie of the Year.
2016-2017 Season: Became the Sun's rebuilding hopeful, breaking the Sun's all-time single-game scoring record by blasting 70 points against the Celtics on March 25, 2017, and becoming the youngest player in the NBA to score 60 / 70 points in a single game.
2017-2018 Season: After team centerpiece Bledsoe was traded, Booker became the only rebuilding core for the Sun. Won the All-Star 3-point contest that season.
