In a recent interview with the media, Liverpool defender Van Dyke spoke at length about the new demands placed on him by new manager Sloter and his changing role in the team. Van Dyke said that Slotter has put a lot of expectations on him, but he is enjoying the feeling of being challenged. Sloter knows that Van Dyke is not only a great defender at the guard position, but also has the ability to control the ball and pass, so he wants him to play a bigger role on the offensive end as well.
Van Dyke confidently stated that he possesses different strengths, including the ability to make long passes of 60-70 yards, as well as being good at breaking through opponents' defenses. He believes that when the team has teammates who are able to be in the right position, his kind of passes can speed up the pace of the offense and create more chances for the team to attack. He emphasized that he shoulders such responsibility to contribute to the team's offense along with his teammates such as Alisson and Konate.
Van Dyk also mentioned that this change is a huge challenge for him as Liverpool played a specific and very successful tactical style of play under Klopp's guidance for the past few years. However, he is willing to adapt to this new role and take more responsibility in organizing the attack. Van Dyk said that he is enjoying the change as it is an opportunity where he can show his all-round style as a defender. He believes that the outside world may be surprised when they see him do this, but he has always had the ability to do this, it's just that now he finally has the chance to show it. Van Dyke proudly stated that this is another skill in his arsenal of skills that he is enjoying and proud of.
