Speaking to ESPN on September 12, Manchester City midfielder Rodri said that winning the Ballon d'Or is a dream and that the Spanish men's soccer team will win it again after 64 years.

Rodri said in an interview, "Yes, winning the Ballon d'Or is certainly my dream. A lot of people say that if Rodri can win the Ballon d'Or, why not Iniesta or Xavi?"

"I agree with that statement. They were players of an era, one of the best players in history, but here is the fact that they were part of the Melo era."

"It would be a source of pride for me and our country to win the Ballon d'Or, and to have a Spanish player who can win it would make everyone proud."

"But that's the way soccer is. There have been great players over the years. I think Spain should have one as well because we have come out with some great players who have made history at club and national level."

"People say my biggest rival is Vinicius. He's a player I admire a lot. I think he's great. To be a part of this conversation makes me proud of my efforts. To be honest, there are a lot of players who deserve this award, so let's wait and see."

"But imagine when I walk down the street and people tell me you're going to win the Golden Globe, that's what you've earned. For me, that means I'm already a winner. I think it's unbelievable that people believe I can be the best player in the world and say that to me. It's something I never dreamed of."

"When you're in this situation and in this position, and you think about the years of hard work, the many trusts that have been placed in you and the help that everyone has given you, you think about the incredible opportunity to win this award and get to this level."
