He began his tenure as head coach of the Kings in 2022 and led the Kings to an 18-game improvement in his first season, finishing the season with 48 wins and 34 losses, finishing third in the Western Conference and returning to the playoffs after 16 years. He was also named the NBA's Coach of the Year for the 2022-2023 season for his performance and is the first unanimous winner of the Coach of the Year award since its inception.
On June 1, 2024, Mike Brown signed a three-year, $30 million contract extension to continue coaching the Kings.
