He has played for the former Defender Roundabout, Chongqing Lifan, Guangzhou Pharmaceuticals, Guangzhou Evergrande, etc. He has been selected for China's national team at all levels many times, and is known as "China's Super Platinum Generation" along with 81 other players including Zhang Yaokun and Qu Bo. After his retirement, Zhou Lin transformed into a coach, coaching Shijiazhuang Kung Fu in June 2023, with 12 wins, 6 draws and 2 losses in 20 matches, finishing third in the season's Central League.
While Zhou Lin joins the coaching staff, Zhao Faqing, the team's former head coach, will be promoted to head coach of Dalian Kuncheng Football Club.
