Brazil, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics men's soccer champions, failed to qualify for this year's Olympic qualifiers, so Spain, the runner-up in men's soccer at the last Olympics, is the natural favorite to win the title. The young matadors with Baena, Fermin and Cubasi are naturally in the spotlight. They are in Group C with Egypt, Uzbekistan and Dominican Republic. After two consecutive victories against Uzbekistan 2:1 and Dominican Republic 3:1, the Spanish national team has advanced to the final round of the tournament, where they will fight with Egypt for the first place in the group.
In Group D, Japan, Paraguay, Mali and Israel appear to be equally matched, but Japan actually stands alone. They don't have a single overage player, and even the age-eligible Kenshiro Kubo was not selected for the squad. Japan won two straight games in the first two rounds of the group stage, scoring six goals and conceding none, making them the best team in the group, advancing early and basically locking up first place in the group.
In the last Olympic Games, Japan's national Olympic team, as the host, reached the semifinals, but lost to Spain 0:1 in overtime and regretted to go out. In this Olympics, the Japanese men's soccer team is not to be underestimated and has hopes of competing for the title.
