Despite the fact that the new FA President Song Kai has expressed his desire to restart the naturalization program, the FA has not taken any real action. The reason for this is that the players who are eligible for naturalization are either not good enough to meet the requirements of the national team or are not interested in naturalization. Taking Oscar as an example, although he is only 24 years old and has some impact power, his lack of skills makes it difficult for him to become the core of the national football team's offense. Therefore, it is obviously a wise decision for the FA not to naturalize him. Of course, if Oscar can compromise on his salary, he may still have a chance to play for the national team.
In response to the naturalization of players such as Oscar, Zhou Dingyang and Sergio, the FA finally decided to suspend the naturalization program altogether. In the upcoming 18-team Asian World Qualifying Tournament, the naturalized players, except for Fernando, may be dropped by the national team. As for whether Fernando can be re-selected to the national team, it depends on his performance in his new owner Shanghai Shenhua.
From the perspective of the long-term development of Chinese soccer, relying on naturalized players is not a sustainable solution. Discovering and developing young domestic players with potential is the key to promoting the sustainable progress of Chinese soccer.
