Arsenal are preparing to significantly reshuffle their goalkeeping at the start of next season. A deal for Raya has been finalized, meaning the likelihood of Ramsdale leaving the team this summer is increasing.
Of course, Arsenal selling Ramsdale is more than just talk. There is still a big market for Ramsdale, and Arsenal would like to recoup the £30 million transfer fee he initially paid. There are only a handful of clubs in Europe that can meet Arsenal's target price, and most of those teams have a regular starting goalkeeper. The deal to acquire Raya is unusual as goalkeepers are usually signed on contract to fill the void in that position in the team.
At the moment, Arsenal are not considering selling Ramsdale on loan or at a reduced price. Arsenal may have to make concessions unless circumstances change, such as most of the domino effect in goalkeeper signings.
If Ramsdale does leave the team, 23-year-old Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcia will more than likely replace him. Garcia played 16 games with Espanyol last season, delivering 10 shutouts. His good form helped Spaniards return to La Liga and also recruited the Spanish Olympic men's soccer team.
Both Cana and Arsenal see Garcia as a suitable candidate for Raya's replacement. There was a €15 million (£12.6 million, $16.3 million) buyout clause in Garcia's previous contract, but the Spaniard's return to La Liga means that amount will rise to €25 million. However, Arsenal believe they should be able to acquire Garcia for far less than that - perhaps even less than €15 million - given that he has just established himself in Spain.
While Arsenal have added Garcia to their list of targets for signings in the goalkeeping position, they do not expect to reach an agreement until a Ramsdale buyer emerges.
Arsenal also want Bentley to be the third goalkeeper. Wolves' stand-in goalkeeper comes from Arsenal's youth set-up and made five Premier League appearances last season. Like previous team signings Raya and Lunarsson, he has worked with Cana before - they spent many years at Brentford.
Arsenal have been looking for a local third goalkeeper. This is a very accurate role:Playing time may be limited, but some character is needed. Bentley is seen as a player who can contribute positively to the goalkeeping team.
The signing of this Terry will also open the door for Carl Hein to go out on loan. The Estonian international has been persuaded to sign a new contract this summer, but one of the clauses of this deal is that Arsenal will do their best to find him a better team on loan so that he can get more first team football. As a 22-year-old keeper, this is clearly an essential step in his development.
Arsenal are also optimizing the team's youth goalkeepers. Ovie Ejehri, James Hilson and Okonkwo all had their contracts canceled this summer. The club may have to supplement their current youth goalkeepers with other contracts.
A potential target for Arsenal is Tommy Seaford, Ajax's 18-year-old England goalkeeper. Arsenal have started talks with Ajax to sign this England U20 national.
Arsenal have also acquired Lucas Nygaard, a young 18-year-old Danish goalkeeper from Danish club North Zealand, which also has some crossover with Caner - Nygaard, where Caner worked as a goalkeeping coach for a year.
Apparently, Arteta trusts Cana a lot. Rebuilding the Arsenal goalkeeper's position is still a step in the right direction.
