Jesse Marsch will be the head coach of the Canadian national team under contract until the end of the 2026 World Cup, the Canadian Football Association announced today via its official website. This means that Jesse Marsch, who was the first candidate for the head coach of the Korean national team, will no longer sign a contract with the Korean Football Association.

According to reports, negotiations between Marsh and the Korean Football Association (KFA) have stalled due to a disagreement over the terms of the contract: the KFA has set a salary cap of $2.5 million per year for the new manager, which is a far cry from the £3.5 million per year Marsh earns at Leeds United FC.

Originally, Marsh was likely to take over as head coach of the Korean national team. Appreciating his solid tactical philosophy and experience working with Korean players (Hwang Hee-chan), the KFA also chose Jesse Marsh as its first choice. In addition, the KFA dropped other candidates such as Turkish coach Güneş and French women's national team head coach Hervé Renard to put all their efforts into negotiations with Jesse Marsch.

Yesterday, the South Korean media reported a breakdown in negotiations, but an official from the Korean Football Association denied the news, saying the talks had not yet been concluded. But Marsh is the head coach of Team Canada today.

It has been three months since former South Korea head coach Jurgen Klinsmann was sacked, and based on the current situation, it is likely that the KFA will opt to continue using an acting coach to guide the team, especially in the two World Cup qualifiers against Singapore and against South Korea in June.
