During the first half, Uzbekistan went on a lengthy attack but were unable to score, including a long-range shot by Boriev that hit the crossbar. At the start of the second half, Uzbekistan was nearly overtaken by their rivals. Luckily for Uzbekistan, an Indonesian goal was ruled out for offside and Uzbekistan escaped with a goal. They then went on a rampage, first breaking the deadlock with a goal by Norchayev, and then a free kick that was accidentally headed in by a defender to seal the 2-0 victory.
Also, Uzbekistan hit the goal frame five times throughout the match and Indonesia was lucky not to lose badly.
After eliminating Indonesia, Uzbekistan managed to advance to the final. With the top three teams qualifying through to the Paris Olympics, the team locked up an early Olympic berth, the first time in the team's history that it had achieved that feat.
After losing in the semifinals of the 2020 U23 Asian Cup and then again in the third-place playoff, Uzbekistan finished fourth and did not qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, and now they have finally realized that dream.
After the game, the entire Uzbekistan team went into ecstasy as the crowd celebrated by waving flags, the players sprawled on the pitch in excitement, and head coach Kapadze and assistant coaches shared hugs and danced in celebration of the historic moment.
As a country located in Central Asia, with a population of 36.37 million (as of 2023 data), Uzbekistan is considered to be a populous country. Now that they have finally made a breakthrough, with the men's soccer team qualifying for the Olympics for the first time, it will be a sleepless night for Uzbekistan fans.
