In his post-match interview following the 1-3 defeat away to Arsenal, Southampton striker Archer gave an in-depth reflection on the game, pointing out how his team performed in the match and what they need to improve on.
Archer began by acknowledging his team's defensive performance in the first half, "We defended very well in the first half and went into the second half with a recap, discussing what we did well and what we didn't do." However, he also pointed out the issues that arose for the team in the second half, "We started the second half with a few more issues, which put us on the back foot in the game."
He went on to talk about his team's offense and defensive transitions, "We created some chances and scored a goal, but just three minutes later they scored, which somewhat dampened our energy and morale." Archer believes that the team needs to be more courageous in facing the game, "When they scored, the game wasn't over. So, if we can play with more courage, I believe we can score more goals and win more games."
Speaking about the defense, Archer said, "Like I said, I thought we defended really well in the second half, but we also need to eliminate the mistakes that lead to goals being conceded. Eliminating mistakes has been a major issue for us this season. I think if we can do that, the results will improve."
