Yokohama International Stadium, located in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is Japan's largest multi-purpose stadium, opened in March 1998, with a total of 73,237 seats. The stadium was the venue for the 2002 FIFA World Cup final and is currently used by the Japan Professional Football League (J. League).
Home of the Yokohama Mariners
On March 21, 1998, the Yokohama Mariners played their first match at the Yokohama International Arena against fellow city club Yokohama FC.
Since March 1, 2005, Nissan Motor (parent company of the Yokohama Mariners) has acquired the naming rights to the Yokohama International Stadium and renamed the stadium "Nissan Stadium" or "Nissan S." The stadium will be the venue for the FIFA Club World Cup Finals from 2005 onwards. In 2005, the stadium became the venue for the final of the FIFA Club World Cup. However, FIFA did not allow the stadium to use the sponsor's name, so the stadium was used for the duration of the tournament, and during the 2002 FIFA Club World Cup, the stadium was used for a total of four matches, including three group stage matches, and the final match on June 30, 2002 (Brazil vs. Germany), which was won by Brazil 2-0, and the stadium was also used as a venue for the FIFA Club World Cup Finals.
Misawa Park Stadium, the secondary home of the Yokohama Mariners, is located in the Misawa Park Park area in Kanagawa-ku, Yokohama-shi, Kanagawa Prefecture, and was completed in 1955. Misawa Park was shared by Yokohama Mariners and Yokohama FC until the completion of the Yokohama International Arena in 1998, when the Yokohama Mariners took over the stadium. Although the Yokohama Mariners have left Misawa Park, the team still uses Misawa Park for some of their league matches.
