Who is Shui Qingxia?
Shui Qingxia (December 18, 1966-), female, native of Funing, Jiangsu Province, born in Shanghai, is a Chinese former women's soccer player, a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), where she served as head coach of the Chinese national women's soccer team.
Shui Qingxia initially participated in long jump and pentathlon training, then joined the soccer team of the Junior Sports School, and was selected for the Shanghai team in 1984 and the national training team the following year. She competed in women's soccer at the 1996 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal. She played in all five matches during the tournament, but opted out of the 1999 Women's World Cup because she was playing in Japan and attending a coaching clinic, and decided to retire after helping the Shanghai women's soccer team defend their title at the 2001 National Games.
In October 2016, Shui became a member of the Technical Committee of the CFA and was involved in the selection of the Chinese men's national soccer team. 2021, Shui became the head coach of the Chinese women's national soccer team, leading the team to the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup title. In November 2023, Shui Qingxia stepped down as head coach of the Chinese women's soccer team after the team failed to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
