Where is Venice, the newly promoted Serie A team
Where is Venice's home stadium?
Venezia F.C., founded in 1907, is a soccer club based in Venice, Italy, with its home stadium at the Stadio Pierluigi Benzo in the northeastern Italian city of Venice.
The Stadio Pierluigi Benzo was opened in 1913 on the site of the team's current home, on Via Sant'Elena, at the easternmost point of Venice's inner island. Originally built as a temporary stand, in 1927 the stadium was named Sports Camp, with an athletics track and a capacity of around 15,000, and in 1931 it was named Stadio Pierluigi Benzo in honor of the Venetian pilot who was killed on his way back from an Arctic expedition, in 1939 it was renovated and expanded into a multi-purpose stadium, and in 1961 the stadium was opened for the first time for a match against Internazionale Milano. In 1961, the stadium recorded a record attendance of over 28,000 for a home Serie A match against Inter Milan. Since then, the stadium's capacity has been reduced due to the team's persistence in the lower leagues, the safety regulations of the Football Association and the economic downturn in Venice, and in 2007 the stadium's capacity was limited to less than 7,400.
Plans for the new stadium were presented in 2018, with plans to build a modern stadium that can accommodate at least 18,000 people (with the possibility of future renovation to a 25,000 capacity) in the same venue, on a plot of land in the north of Venice near Marco Polo International Airport. The new stadium would be expected to open in 2023.
