In an interview with Picture Post, Fulham goalkeeper Leno spoke at length about his failure to be selected for the German national team and revealed the frank exchange he had with Germany boss Nagelsmann and goalkeeping coach Andreas Kronberg.
Leno said, "I had an in-depth conversation with Nagelsmann and goalkeeping coach Andreas Kronberg, and we were very open with each other. They clearly told me that although I could be selected for the German team, I would not have the opportunity to play in the current situation."
Based on this clear message, Leno made his decision: "That's why I chose to stay in London and continue training. I think that, as a professional player, I need to stay in shape and give my all for my club Fulham. And if I join the national team but can't play, it will have an impact on my form and my club game."
Leno also emphasized his loyalty and respect for the German team, "Nagelsmann knew that I was always there when they really needed me and that I could really help the team. I've never made any unreasonable demands during Neuer's and Ter Stegen's appearances, I've always worked hard to do my own thing and never had any complaints."
Leno is confident about his strengths: "I have proven myself in the Bundesliga, the Premier League and in many international matches. Nagelsmann and Andreas Kronberg know exactly what I can do and what I can bring to the team."
