English Premier League giants Manchester City have shown a keen interest in Porto midfielder Alan Gonzalo Barrera, according to Portuguese media outlet Sociedad.

Alan Barrera, born on July 4, 2001 in Isidro Casanova, Argentina, started his soccer career with Lujan Barcelona and Boca Juniors. He officially broke into the Boca Juniors first team in 2021 and moved to his current side, Porto, in the summer of 2023.

A versatile player, Alan Barrera primarily plays at the back, but can also play in midfield and as a right winger. He has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Porto so far this season, contributing one assist, although he has not scored.

It is worth noting that Alan Barrera's contract contains a release clause of up to €70 million. In addition, Boca Juniors still retain 20% of his ownership, meaning that if Porto are successful in selling Barrera, Boca Juniors will also benefit.

Manchester City's interest in Alan Barrera is certainly a recognition of his potential. A young and versatile midfielder, Barrera is expected to be one of the best in the top flight in the coming years. However, whether Porto and Boca Juniors will let the potential starlet go easily and whether City can meet their asking price are the key factors that will determine whether this transfer will materialize.

For Manchester City, the introduction of Alan Barrera will further strengthen their midfield, providing the team with more options and variations in future matches. For Barrera himself, joining City will also be an important milestone in his career, providing him with more opportunities and challenges.
