In the Premier League match between Villa and Manchester United, the two sides exchanged a 0-0 draw. After the match, Villa midfielder Barkley was interviewed and expressed his disappointment with the result, while also seeing the positive performance of his team in the match.
Buckley said, "I was delighted to make my first league start of the season and there were certainly a lot of positives to take from the game. Even though we didn't end up winning, we played well so it felt more like two points dropped than one point gained."
He further stated, "Our main goal is to continue to progress from last season. Last season, we managed to finish in the top four of the league and that is something we will be aiming to accomplish again this season. Of course, my dream is to help the team win trophies."
Speaking about the shutout in the game, Buckley said, "In terms of how we played in midweek and the points we got, of course we wanted to win, but to be able to pick up a shutout is also a positive. It's a testament to the fact that we had a good performance on the defensive end as well."
Additionally, Barkley talked about his role in the game, "Regardless of the score, I felt like I made a difference in the game when I came in off the bench. I knew what the coaches were asking for and I delivered. I think there are a lot of areas of the team to look forward to and I feel good right now, but just the more game time I get, I know my form will get better and better."
Despite his disappointment at the draw, Barkley's statement showed his confidence in the future of the team and his positive attitude towards his personal performance. An experienced midfielder, he will continue to contribute to Villa's progress and success.
