According to the latest report from Spanish media outlet Relevo, Premier League giants Manchester City have turned their attention to Real Sociedad's central midfielder Martin Subbimendi and are interested in trying to bring him in to fill the void left by Rodri in the upcoming winter window period, following the absence of City's big midfielder, Rodri, who is out of the game with a serious ligament injury.
Reports suggest that Manchester City's interest in Subbimendi is not empty. In the summer transfer window earlier this season, Subbimendi had turned down an offer from Liverpool, choosing to remain at Real Sociedad. However, this decision opens up the possibility of other teams chasing him in the future, with Manchester City being one of the strongest.
Rodney's serious injury has decimated City's midfield and they are in desperate need of a player who can take his place. In this case, City looked at Subi Mendy, a 25-year-old midfielder who has had an excellent season, making 10 appearances for Real Sociedad, including nine starts, and scoring one goal.
It's worth noting that Subbimendi is yet to renew his contract with Real Sociedad, which expires in 2027. This is something that has opened City's eyes to the possibility of bringing him in. It is reported that City plan to try to bring in Subbimendi in January of the winter window, but not only do they need to pay his release fee of up to 60 million euros, but they also need to convince him to leave Real Sociedad and join City.
For Manchester City, the introduction of Subi Mendi will undoubtedly strengthen their midfield and provide more options for the team in future matches. However, whether or not they can successfully bring in the midfielder will depend on City's specific operation and negotiation progress during the winter window.
