English Premier League (EPL) giants Manchester City FC will officially sign 17-year-old talented left back Christian McFarlane, who currently plays for New York City FC in Major League Soccer (MLS), in January 2025, according to a new report from renowned soccer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Romano revealed that the deal has gone smoothly as planned, with City set to bring in the young defender, who was born in 2007, to further bolster the team's youth system and first-team strength. McFarlane's signing marks the second time that City's youth academy and City Football Group have unearthed a potential star from American soccer, following the success of 15-year-old Kaven Sullivan.
McFarland's current transfer value is reported to be €1 million. During the 2024 season, he made 13 appearances for New York City, including nine starts, showing maturity beyond his years and excellent defensive abilities. This performance also attracted the attention of several top clubs in Europe, but ultimately it was Manchester City who managed to win over the young defender due to their excellent reputation in youth training and their well-established development system.
