Entering the NBA in 2018, he is the second native Japanese player to enter the NBA after Yuta Tazuma, playing a total of six NBA seasons, appearing in 213 regular season games and contributing an average of 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
Since graduating from George Washington University, Yuta Watanabe declared for the 2018 NBA Draft, and even though he didn't make the cut, he was fortunate enough to earn an invitation from the Brooklyn Nets to represent them in the 2018 Las Vegas Summer League.
