Why are some teams called the Battlestar Galactica?
"Galactic battleship" now called has become a fixed title of Real Madrid, in fact, these four words represent an era of Real Madrid.
The Galacticos can't be mentioned without the term "Galactico".
Galactico is Spanish for "Galaxy" and is used to describe soccer players who are considered superstars or have "extraordinary abilities".
Galactico, in addition to being extremely talented, tends to be well known around the world and usually charges a hefty transfer fee.
The terminology was popularized in the 2000s during Florentino's presidency of Real Madrid, when he and the club actively pursued a policy of importing and prioritizing the signing of these types of players, giving rise to the term "Galacticos".
Of course, the idea of assembling a team of superstars has been around since long before Florentino became president, and it's not limited to Real Madrid.
Cruyff coached Barcelona from 1988 to 1996 and arguably had many Galactico's, including Romario, Laudrup and Stoichkov, in what was known as the "Dream Team".
Prior to that, Real Madrid had a Galactico team in the 1950s and 1960s that included Di Stefano, Puskás and Raymond Coppa.
