The newest member of the Portuguese national team, Renato Vega, shared his thoughts at the team's regular press conference during the match. Regarding the upcoming match, Renato said that he expects to do his best to make the most of and enjoy the game, and that he will give his best in whatever position the coach puts him on the pitch. He has played in a number of positions at Chelsea, including wing-back, center-back, full-back, and a more defensive midfielder, so he feels good in a number of positions on the field and is willing to follow the coach's instructions.
Talking about his national team debut, Renato said that it is a special moment and that he is preparing himself by focusing on each training session. He emphasized that as a young man living in the moment, he will try to get better every day and then let the results from his work show up naturally. On how he is coping with his family's expectations, he thanked them for their support and help, especially his father Nelson, mother Tania, and siblings and grandmother. He completed his youth training at Sporting Portugal but was not given the opportunity at the time and decided to leave and make his own path.
Renato also shared his leap from Sporting Portugal B to Chelsea to making the national team roster. He stated that it was a fast process, but also experienced a lot of good and not-so-good moments. He is very happy and proud of his journey and thankful to those who helped him grow. In the national team, he felt the strength of the team and the help of experienced players for the younger ones, he was open to suggestions and tried to absorb all the good things.
Finally, Renato spoke about his thoughts on his return to Sporting Portugal, stating that for now he will live each day first and has a very special attachment to the sport, but is happy to be playing for Chelsea at the moment. Regarding the intensive fixtures and the competition from young players for the center back position, he believes that age is just a number, it's the performance that counts and expects Portugal to win the next two games.
