In a recent interview, Spain international Subbimendi gave his thoughts on Manchester City's interest in him, his status in the national team, the performance of his teammates, the behavior of extreme fans and the intensive schedule.
Speaking about Manchester City's interest in him, Subbimendi said, "I always follow my heart. It's true that every transfer window there is news that certain teams are interested in me, and that's normal. But I think the best option for me is to stay at Real Sociedad. I want to continue to grow and I believe I still have a lot to contribute to Real Sociedad. I'm very aware of that regardless of when the transfer market opens."
Subbimendi doesn't agree with the idea that players from Real Sociedad may not be as valued in the national team as those from the big teams: "I don't think so. I don't think so. In the Europa League, players from Real Sociedad scored two very important goals, which will never be forgotten in the history of Spanish soccer. The beauty of the national team is that it brings together players from different teams, and I'm sure that every fan will remember all the players who have played for the national team."
Speaking about teammate Sergio Gomez, Subbimendi said, "I'm very happy that Sergio Gomez is in the national team. He has managed to establish himself at Real Sociedad and is a very versatile and technical player. He showed his individuality on his first day of training with the team and I am happy for him."
As for the extreme Anderlecht fans who caused a scene at Anoeta, Subbimendi expressed his strong displeasure: "These are not allowed. It feels even more different when you see it as a pro-player. As players, we were in favor of stopping the game. I don't know who is responsible for this, but such extreme fans shouldn't be the protagonists in the stadium, and this kind of behavior has to be stopped."
Speaking about Spain's national team head coach De La Fuente, Subbimendi was full of gratitude: "I am very grateful to De La Fuente for his trust in me. He is a good coach that everyone admires. After winning the European Cup, de la Fuente's position in people's hearts is even higher. I hope he can lead the Spanish team to another success."
Reflecting on coming on as a substitute in the Europa League final, Subbimendi said, "It all happened very fast and I didn't have time to think about anything. I wasn't nervous and after completing my warm-up and speaking briefly with the coach I stepped onto the pitch and tried to do everything I could."
Speaking on the question of whether he will be the starter after Rodri's injury, Subbimendi said, "I don't want to talk too much about it, it's up to the coach to decide. I'm competing with Rodri to start at the back, and it's a shame that he's injured, he's an important player for the Spanish national team."
Finally, on the issue of intensive fixtures, Subbimendi said, "I don't know if organizing a strike is a good way to solve the problem. But it is clear that the intensive schedule is really a problem. We need to find a solution to this problem for the sake of the players' health as well as the spectacle of the game."
