
Alihan coached Chongqing Lifan for a short time after his dismissal from the national team, and at the end of 2009 he began coaching Tianjin Teda, during which time he adopted the Dutch tactic of all-out attacking soccer, allowing skilled players such as YuDaBao, ChenTao, and WangXinXin to give full play to their talents. TEDA finished second in the league in 2010, and managed to reach the last 16 of the AFC Champions League in 2011, as well as winning the AFC Cup. Arrihan's performance made him the meritorious coach of TEDA soccer.
He announced at the end of April 2016 that he would no longer work in coaching or soccer management because his health could not cope with the immense pressure and psychological burden of the job. In recent years, the 67-year-old has been living in Denia, a small town in southeastern Spain near the Mediterranean Sea, and in a villa with a swimming pool. This is how the Dutch soccer legend spends his old age, enjoying the happiness of being with his family.
