Manchester United could delay a decision on Greenwood's future until after the international break in September.

United will continue to assess the decision to return Greenwood ahead of September's international day as the club look to explain the investigation to key stakeholders.

The 21-year-old has been under internal investigation by Manchester United since February. All charges against him were dropped after a "key witness withdrew proceedings". Once again, he denies all the alleged crimes.

United wanted to make a decision on Greenwood's stay before the start of the 2023-24 Premier League season, but now they want more time to explain the results of their internal investigation with key stakeholders.

Of the United players who are playing in the Women's World Cup, United also intend to consult.

MaryEarps, Ellatone and Katie Zelem will stay in Australia for the World Cup, where the Three Lions women's team will face Australia in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

Greenwood has not featured for the Red Devils since the 2021/22 season. He scored 35 goals in 129 games during his time at Old Trafford.

He scored six goals in all competitions during the 2021-22 season, compared to 12 goals in all competitions last season. He also scored 17 goals in all competitions in his first full season in the first team.
