Raul started his soccer career with Alevín in San Cristóbal de los Ángeles, and in 1990 he joined Atlético de Madrid as a youth player, before joining Real Madrid's youth team in 1992, when the then president of the club, Kiir, ordered the disbanding of the youth program.
In 1994-95, Raúl was promoted to the first team by then coach Jorge Baldano, becoming the youngest player in the history of La Liga (17 years and 04 months). With a natural talent for soccer, he immediately became an important member of the team, scoring 9 goals in 28 games in the first season, helping the team win the 1994-95 La Liga title. The following year he began to develop a formidable goal-scoring ability, scoring 19 goals in 40 league games, making him the fifth top scorer in the league, which was won by Raúl's parent club Atlético de Madrid, and in 1997 he teamed up with Croatian striker Davor Suker to help the team beat arch-rivals Barcelona and become the league's top team. Piris became the new president of the club, and every year he recruited world-class players to join the team, with Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo and Beckham joining some of the players that brought Real Madrid into the era of the "Galactic Armada", and in 2003, Raúl succeeded the departing Fernando Yero as the captain of the team.
On September 28, 2005, he scored a goal against Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League, breaking the club's record of 49 goals in the Champions League set 41 years earlier by Di Stefano and becoming the first player to score 50 goals in the UEFA Champions League (in a total of 97 games).
On February 15, 2009, Raúl made his debut against Athletic Gijón and scored two goals in the match, surpassing the 307 goals held by the famous Día Stefano, and becoming Real Madrid's all-time leading goal scorer with 309 goals.
On February 21, 2009, Raul created another page of Real Madrid history with two more goals against Real Betis. After this game, Raul scored 218 La Liga goals for Real Madrid, surpassing the 216 goals held by Di Stefano, who was tied with him, and leading the all-time league scoring list of Real Madrid.
July 26, 2010, Raul officially announced in Madrid to leave Spain to join the Bundesliga Schalke 04, from now on to say goodbye to this individual before the only playing club, 16 years Raul in Real Madrid achieved a total of 16 championships in the brilliant honor.
