With Manchester United playing Brentford next weekend
As the match draws nearer, United manager Jens Ten Haggard is facing a tough test at the wing-back position. Mazrahi's absence leaves Ten Hag in a tight spot, especially with Luke Shaw and Malacia still recovering from injuries, and United's wingback lineup looks even thinner.
Dalot has played at left-back in almost all games so far this season, but this set-up is not his best position. Facing Brentford
For the match, Ten Hag was faced with a difficult decision. A "safe" and most likely option is to move center back Lisandro Martinez to left back. Martinez played at left back against Manchester City in the Community Shield and had a good game. Playing him at left back would allow Dalot to play a bigger role by going back to his more specialized position of right back.
However, Martinez's center back position is just as important. Due to Maguire's new injury problems, Evans or Lindelof will compete for the other center back spot to partner with de Ligt. This means that if Martinez moves to left-back, United will face a new shake-up at center-back.
Aside from Martinez, youth starlet Armas is also a potential option. The 17-year-old has been in fine form for United in pre-season but has yet to break into the first team so far this season. Despite calls for him to be included in the playing squad, Ten Hagar believes it is too early for Armas to make his Premier League debut. There is no doubting his talent, but against Brentford
With such an opponent, United are under immense pressure to play at home and starting Armas could add to the uncertainty of the game.
As a result, Ten Hagar will need to make the best out of his limited options. He may consider Martinez's versatility and play him as a temporary left-back while looking for other center-back alternatives. Alternatively, he may continue to trust Dalot, who, although not in his best position, has proved he is capable of fulfilling that role with his performances this season. Whatever choice Ten Hagar makes, he will want to keep United's defense steady during the game and set his team up for a win.
