How Henry started his soccer career

How Henry got started in soccer

Thierry Henry is of Little Anne's Leeds heritage, his father Antoine being from Guadeloupe and his mother Mérèse from Martinique. Born and raised in the poor town of Jules in the Greater Paris region, where life was hard but there were good grounds for practicing, Henri showed his potential at the age of seven when he joined the regional team CO Les Ulis on the recommendation of his coach, Claude Cetzel. Although he didn't develop a strong interest in soccer, his father forced him to train, and in 1989 he joined US Paradzio, but a year later his father fell out with the team, so Henri moved to Viry Chatillon for two years, where he was followed by US Paradzio's coach, Jean-Marie Ponsard, who was also Henri's mentor.

In 1990, Monaco sent scout Arnott Catalano to watch Henry play a match. Henry scored six goals in the game and helped his team win 6:0. Catalano lobbied hard for Henry to join Monaco without a trial. Catalano only asked Henry to complete a course at Monaco's affiliated club, the Fontaine Football Academy, where Henry did poorly at school, but the director of the academy reluctantly allowed him to join the Monaco youth team, where he first met Arsène Wenger, who was Monaco's manager.
