In a press conference with the French team, Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana shared his feelings on his return from injury and expressed his opinion on Mbappe's absence from the current national team training session.
Fofana said: "I'm feeling pretty good at the moment and I'm very happy to be back after my injury. I've been looking forward to playing again and it's great to be back in a France shirt. Now I'm healthy, fit and happy and that's the most important thing. We've had a good start to the season at Chelsea and every game I'm feeling better on the pitch and more oriented. I hope everything goes well and as long as I can stay fit I can play and do what I love."
Speaking about his preference at center back, Fofana said, "For me, it's pretty much the same whether I play on the right or the left. I'm a right-footed player, so I feel a little bit more comfortable on the right side when I'm defending. But if the coach asks me to play up front, that's fine, I'll always be at his disposal."
On the question of whether the club is trying to prevent players from participating in national team training, Fofana responded, "I wouldn't say that the club is pressurizing us, the proof is that I'm here now. We agreed with the club that I would only play one game a week. The squad is now complete and I'm in good shape, the club has handled the situation well and everyone is in the right frame of mind. All the France games are important and if you want to be called up then you have to give it your all every time and everyone has a chance to perform."
Speaking about Mbappe, Fofana said, "Everyone does what they want in their free time. Within the team, none of us have talked about his situation or this matter. Mbappe is a great lad and a very professional player. He has managed his career in his own way, which is his right. He's a great French player, so it's normal for him to be in the media. As for whether he is overexposed, I think sometimes you (journalists) really go a bit too far. But if you want to know more, you'd better ask the man himself."
Furthermore, Fofana spoke about William Saliba's return to the French team, "I've played with William for a long time, we spent many years together at Saint-Etienne. I'm happy that he's in the French team on a regular basis, it makes you want to play with him. If I'm in the French team, it's also about being a starter, not sitting on the bench."
Finally, Fofana gave his opinion on France's performance at the Euros: "Football is all about winning, it's up to you to judge the level. I don't think we had a 'boring' game and I enjoyed watching my teammates play during the tournament. But the team has been criticized more because France didn't win the title. We don't judge each other's preferences and styles because everyone has their own opinion."
