According to British media outlet LondonWorld, former France international and Real Madrid and Chelsea star Makelele is likely to take over Championship side Cardiff City, with talks between the two sides currently underway.
Cardiff City are having a poor season in the Championship, with only 1 win, 2 draws and 6 losses in the first 9 rounds of matches, creating the team's worst start since '94. Currently, they are ranked last of the 24 teams in the Championship, so the club decided to fire the Turkish coach Brunt.
In order to get out of the dilemma, Cardiff City started to look for a new managerial candidate and set their eyes on Makelele. The 51-year-old Makelele was known for his excellent defense and blocking ability during his playing days, and has played for a number of big clubs such as Real Madrid and Chelsea. After his retirement, he also ventured into the field of coaching, having coached teams such as Bastia and Auburn, and served as assistant coach of Paris Saint-Germain and Swansea.
However, Makrale's coaching career has not been a smooth one. He recently took over Greek side Astrakastriopolis on September 14, but after leading the team in just three matches, he chose to resign due to disagreements with the club's management.
Nonetheless, Cardiff City have shown great interest in him and hope that he can lead the team out of their predicament. Currently, both sides are in deep talks about coaching, but the exact result is yet to be announced.
For Makelele, if he can successfully take over Cardiff City, it will be a major challenge and opportunity in his coaching career. And Cardiff City fans are looking forward to the arrival of this famous player, hoping that he can bring new tactical concepts and vitality to the team and lead them back to the winning track.
