Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Gary Neville spoke highly of the excellent form Welbeck is currently showing. Neville emphasized that Welbeck's form is significantly better than any of United's current strikers and insisted that United should not have let the striker go in the first place. Roy Keane, on the other hand, expressed a different view and seriously responded to Neville by saying that just because a player has done well since leaving, it doesn't mean they should have been kept in the first place.
Neville stood by his view that Welbeck would be absolutely essential if United had a 24-man squad and wanted to keep five or six strikers. However, Keane doesn't share this view, suggesting that sometimes players do manage to have good careers after leaving United, but that doesn't mean they are good enough to adapt to United's high standards and demands. The two former United stars had a heated debate on the issue, each sticking to their own views.
