Lampard joined West Ham United because his father was an assistant manager, becoming a club youth in October 1994 and a professional on July 1, 1995.
In October 1995, he was loaned to Swansea in League Two. He started nine league and two cup games before returning to West Ham United in January 1996, scoring one goal.
Lampard, who returned to West Ham United, did not make his team debut. He broke his foot on March 15, 1997 against Aston Villa and missed the rest of the season. Lampard's first West Ham United goal came in the 1997-98 season, against Barnsley. During this time, Lampard was selected by England under-21 national soccer team manager Peter Taylor and made his debut on November 13, 1997 against Greece at Crete.

After joining Chelsea on March 15, 2001 for £11 million, Lampard's performances matured. Especially after the arrival of Russian tycoon Abramovich at Chelsea in the third season, his outstanding performances made him an inevitable starter in the Chelsea lineup.
Lampard made his debut in Chelsea's pre-season match against Leyton Orient on July 26, 2001, and scored a goal for Chelsea in another pre-season match on August 1, 2001, when the visitors beat Northampton 7-1.On August 19, 2001, he made his first league start for Chelsea. He also scored two goals in six games in the League Cup, the other cup Chelsea won. During the Champions League and the League, he was considered one of the best midfielders in Europe at the moment by former Brazilian captain Alberto and Dutch player Gruff. He also became the 2005 English Footballer of the Year.
He started 35 league games and scored 16 goals in the 2005-06 season, helping Chelsea win back-to-back English Premier League titles, and started 48 games and scored 20 goals in all official matches.
