English footballer Gascoigne recently expressed his concerns about Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford's performance and mentality in the team in an interview and suggested that he should consider leaving United to play in Italy in search of new motivation.
Gascoigne said, "I like Rashford a lot and I think he's an amazing player, but he doesn't seem to care about what he does on the pitch. Even when he scores, he doesn't look happy. It makes me feel there must be something wrong there."
Asked if he thought Rashford should leave United, Gascoigne didn't hesitate to answer in the affirmative: "Yes, absolutely. If that's the case, it's time to move on. Some players tend to find something new and rejuvenate themselves when they leave their old environment."
Gascoigne further noted that Rashford doesn't seem to be happy playing in England and that Italy might be a new start for him: "For Rashford, going to Italy might cheer him up. I remember when I signed for Lazio, it was a new experience for me and very interesting."
Gascoigne also shared an anecdote from when he joined Lazio: "I remember saying to my dad, 'Let's go and watch them play for a week first.' I ended up watching their warm-up training and thought, 'Wow, that's a training session!' And the coach told me, 'That's just a warm-up.' I kind of wanted to cry at that point, because just the warm-up was going to be about 20 laps and then a half hour of various stretching exercises."
Despite being initially shocked by the intensity of training in Italy, Gascoigne eventually adapted and enjoyed his soccer career there. As a result, he believes that Rashford will also find new footballing joy and motivation in Italy: "Going to play abroad will cheer him (Rashford) up a bit. The soccer atmosphere and training style in Italy may inspire his potential and allow him to rediscover his love for soccer."
