After beating Israel 4-1 at home in the 4th round of the UEFA Europa League group stage, Italian defender Carafiore gave an interview to Italian national television to share his thoughts on the match and the team.
Speaking about the performance compared to the Europa League, Calafiori said, "We are a completely different team. You could see it in the way we took control of the game, we were more confident and played with more fluidity. We have to continue like this, forgetting about the Europa League losses and turning these into a momentum in our favor. Now we are moving in the right direction."
During the game, Calafiori appeared in the number 10 position several times and said about the change, "In today's soccer, defenders also have to be involved in the offense and not give their opponents a point of reference on the field. I try to contribute to the team on the offensive side of the ball without forgetting that I am a defender and need to be alert. I'm excited to try and provide additional solutions for the team and continue to improve myself in the process. My goal is to be able to play both defense and offense at a high level."
On the room for improvement at the back, Calafiori confessed, "We still need to improve on set pieces. Why do we always concede goals in such situations? This is a question we need to think deeply about. Are we careless, or are we disorganized? This has been our only flaw in the last few games and we have to work on it to improve the quality of the team's defense."
Additionally, Calafiori spoke about his experiences abroad, "The Premier League is a different league, every game is intense, even against smaller teams. The intensity there is key and I try to bring that intensity to the national team to help the team adapt better to the high intensity. I believe that with constant hard work and training, we can achieve better results in the coming matches."
