In a recent interview with British media outlet Sports Casting, former England soccer star Gascoigne shared his thoughts on Manchester United manager Jurgen Ten Hagar, striker Marcus Rashford, and the rest of the Premier League teams and players.
On Ten Hagar's future at United, Gascoigne said, "Ten Hagar's coaching path at United has not been smooth. After Ferguson, United's coaches tend to struggle to last, both Mourinho and Moyes. I feel sorry for Ten Hag, I wish Ferguson would take over for a season and see what he can do with these players. The United players should give him more respect, after all this is such a huge club. I think some players don't realize which team they are playing for."
Speaking about United fans' comments that Ten Hagar was "crazy" after Rashford was substituted, Gascoigne opined, "Rashford probably wants to leave United. He's a great player but doesn't seem to care about the result of the game and isn't happy even when he scores. If that's the case then he should move on, some players find new motivation when they leave. For Rashford, playing abroad might cheer him up, like Italy, which has cheered me up before."
On the possibility of City being deducted points, Gascoigne objected, "I don't want to see points deducted. It's not good to deduct points from others, even though they've done something wrong. Deducting points won't make a difference to teams that have huge amounts of money."
On the rivalry between Arsenal and Manchester City, Gascoigne opined, "It's a very tight battle between Arsenal and Manchester City. Arteta surprised me and I'm proud of him. Arsenal have a chance to win the Premier League, they have good enough players and money. And while Newcastle United's plans to expand their stadium capacity are impressive, I think it would be a shame to build a new stadium outside the city."
In addition, Gascoigne spoke about the anger of Liverpool fans over Arnold's possible free agent move to Real Madrid: "It's really scary and the players deserve respect. When McManaman went to Real Madrid I didn't even know about it, I only saw him later when I was watching games. But you have to have incredible talent to play in those places."
