The third round of the Chinese Super League saw a big game - Taishan hosting Zhejiang. According to the previous season's ranking, the conversation between the runner-up and the third place should be a hard-fought battle, but, in the first two rounds of performances, these two powerful teams are surprisingly at the bottom of the table. Taishan gained only one point, while Zhejiang was even at the bottom of the table without a single point. Therefore, this game is a battle of redemption for both teams, who need a win to get out of the doldrums. The two teams met in early April and were evenly matched for 90 minutes.

The game started out evenly matched. In the first 15 minutes, they attacked and defended each other. Taishan had two sides. Zhejiang created more chances by utilizing Mu Xiekui's attacking points. The turning point of the game came in the 19th minute. Taishan was forced to rob high up in front of the field. Zhejiang made a mistake at the back. Sun Junhao broke the ball, Qiu Xin grabbed the ball, shoveled down Sun Junhao and got a direct red card. After playing with one more player, Taishan dominated and the goal came next. Sun Guowen, a 30-year-old national team player, crossed the ball from the left side into the penalty area, where Moises received the ball, took a step and scored with a left-footed pick. Taishan took a 1-0 lead. Fellaini crossed the ball in the 64th minute and Sun Guowen grabbed the points to extend Taishan's advantage to 2 goals. Despite Mu Xiekui's 78th-minute equalizer, Taishan won 2-1 as expected at home, the first win of the 2023 season.
